Home Sweet Home
Opened seven months ago by a well-travelled couple who wanted to come back to their roots in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Madhawa and Erandhi have been living abroad for a good portion of their lives in different countries all over the globe. Madhawa has called hotels in a variety of countries his “second home” because he is attached to an international IT company that requires travel. Hence, these years of living abroad resulted in the fact the couple knows precisely what a guest would like to receive when staying in a hotel.
With this knowledge, Rockwell Colombo was born as being a home away from home for any traveller visiting Sri Lanka. Whether you are visiting for business or pleasure, Rockwell Colombo is the perfect base for your stay in Colombo.
Rockwell Colombo, a small boutique style hotel with elegantly appointed suites and rooms located in the heart of Colombo. Madhawa, Erandhi and their lovely staff are welcoming hosts to their guests. The unique blend of personalized attention, ultimate luxury, intimate friendly atmosphere and superb service is what makes Rockwell Colombo a hotel with character.
The six elegantly appointed rooms spreading over four floors offer guests panoramic views of the ocean and the city of Colombo. Each room radiates the highest standards of luxury, privacy and comfort. Close to a variety of shops, entertainment, recreational facilities and first- class restaurants the Rockwell Colombo offers discerning guests all the facilities and services of a deluxe four-star hotel for a three-star price.
Madhawa stated: “One of the most important things I picked up during my period abroad is that the simple basics are what is key to a comforting hotel experience. That is why we at Rockwell make sure that the simple basics as quality of sleep and cleanliness are impeccable. As such, we have comfortable posturepedic beds, thick fluffy towels, LED TV, rainfall showers and private balconies.”
Eye for Details
Entering the hotel the first thing you notice is the artistic design and the eye for details. The boutique hotel is designed by architect, Mr.Sudesh Nanayakkara, descendant of Sri Lanka’s icon of Design, Mr. Geoffrey Bawa. This is clearly visible if you look at the style of art and the finishing touch of everything until the last details:
The walls are decorated with different styles of 100% original paintings and unique hand carved panelling. Of the six rooms and suites at Rockwell, each one differentiates from the other in term of the colour, art and theme used in each room. Erandhi added: “All of our rooms are named after the places that we have lived ourselves while being abroad. Hence our guests are often requesting their favourite room to stay in, such as Florence, Paris or Manila.”
The rooms express a warm ambiance with high quality furniture, towels and bed sheets and are beautifully decorated. The original accessories are mostly made from natural materials and a wall with a wooden hand carved piece of art. In this manner every suite and room at Rockwell is a one of a kind.
The Rockwell Family
The hotel is small of scale, though it has all the necessary amenities with attention to personalized service. The staff treats its guest in such a personal way as if you are part of the Rockwell family. From the breakfast at the outside alcove to a small gym and an around the clock gourmet chef. Madhawa mentioned “As well we do our best to enhance the family and homey ambiance by organizing weekly rooftop barbeques for our guests. Make Rockwell Colombo your own heaven as you relax and unwind after a day of meetings or hours spent exploring the city of Colombo.”
Within a small window of time Rockwell already has its name out there. With the hotel’s very recent opening it has seen an unanticipated high occupancy mainly due to guest referral. The uniqueness of Rockwell, the warm and inviting ambiance and the quality-trained staff is what makes guests eager to come back.
A Rockwell Round through Sri Lanka
For the future Madhawa and Erandhi are looking to open other properties located at different landscapes across the country. From a beach hotel in Matara in the South of Sri Lanka, to a hotel in the picturesque mountains of Kandy in the center of the country as well as another property in the city center of Colombo. The couple concluded: “We want to utilize the same philosophy and values in every new hotel which we are opening in the future. Hereby we find it key to imprint the same intimate and personal touch of Rockwell. What we envision for the future is that guests can make a complete Rockwell Round throughout Sri Lanka.”
